Decree No. 2009-464 of April 23, 2009, concerning doctoral students on contract at public higher education or research institutions, provides in Article 5 that “the duties of a doctoral student on contract may be devoted exclusively to research activities related to the preparation of the doctoral degree or may include, in addition to these research activities, annual duties equal to one-sixth of the annual actual working hours established by the aforementioned Decree of August 25, 2000, and devoted to the following activities:
- teaching as part of a teaching team, for a workload equal to no more than one-third of the standard annual teaching workload for faculty members, as defined in Article 7 of the aforementioned Decree of June 6, 1984;
- dissemination of scientific and technical information;
- commercialization of scientific and technical research results;
- expert consultations conducted at a company, local government entity, government agency, public institution, association, or foundation
