All AMU doctoral students are subject to the Doctoral Charter, which requires them to complete a minimum of 100 hours of training over the entire duration of their thesis, divided into two blocks
- 50 hours of scientific training: to provide you with the tools you need to carry out your research activities
- 50 hours of professional training: to prepare you for your future career, whether academic or non-academic
These training courses can be either:
- cross-disciplinary (mainly offered by the DFD)
- and/or disciplinary (mainly offered by the ED)
The choice is up to the doctoral student.
In both cases, the courses are available in the ADUM catalog.
Please note that three courses are mandatory (see more information at the bottom of the page) and must be taken during the first year of the thesis:
- training in research ethics
- training in scientific integrity in research professions
- training in open science awareness
Doctoral students in joint supervision must complete the same number of training hours, whether they are provided at amU or at their joint supervision university.
Salaried doctoral students (excluding those on doctoral contracts) are exempted by the ED from the 50 hours of professional training.
Doctoral students with a doctoral contract with teaching duties (CME) must complete 40 hours of training in teaching methods, provided by the CIPE.
These hours are counted as part of the professional training block.
- To register, go to GEFORP.
To have them validated, you must:
- request a certificate of attendance from CIPE (Sonia AMOROS - sonia.amoros@univ-amu.fr)
- submit this certificate to your ADUM account in the “off-catalog” training section.
💡Doctoral students may be required to attend and/or participate in training courses, conferences, summer schools, etc. that are not offered on ADUM. These are “non-catalog” activities.
Example: Contractual doctoral students (=with a doctoral contract) have access to the training catalog for AMU staff via the GEFORP platform.
→ To ensure that an activity can be counted as training hours, and to find out how many hours, you should contact the ED in advance.
- A maximum of 15 hours for simple participation in a conference, seminar, training course, etc.
- A maximum of 21 hours for “active” participation where the doctoral student has helped to organize an event, given a presentation, etc.
For more information: Training course validation procedures
Mandatory “non-catalog” activities: doctoral students affiliated with a PhD Program (NeuroSchool, CENTURI, MarMaRa, etc.) must take the training courses offered by that program.
Recommended “non-catalog” activities:
Participation in the Doctoral Student Association (e.g., Hippo'these)
Participation in a scientific conference
The three compulsory courses to be taken during the first year
The three courses are distance learning “MOOCs” that you can complete at your own pace.
They are bilingual in English and French.
* « Obligatoire-Mandatory Ethique de la recherche » : Research ethics
* « Obligatoire-Mandatory Intégrité scientifique dans les métiers de la recherche » : Scientific integrity in research professions
* « Obligatoire-Mandatory Sensibilisation à la science ouverte » : Awareness of Open Science
You can find them in the training catalogue on ADUM, offered by the DFD-direction de la formation doctorale.
To take the compulsory training courses,
1. You must have your AMU @univ-amu.fr address as your main ADUM address. Without this, you will not have access to the login information.
2. You must pre-register on ADUM. Once your pre-registration has been validated, you will have access to the dedicated platforms.
Once you have completed the compulsory training courses,
3. You must upload your certificates of completion to ADUM via the tab: ►Completion certificate – Distance learning
▲Any declaration via the “external training courses” tab will be refused▲
4. Hours will be validated in the same way as for all ADUM training courses in the catalogue: once you have completed the anonymous training evaluation questionnaire that you will receive by email, also accessible on your ADUM space.
